Really finally, an example of adding Relief Shading and Drop Shadow effects to a grayscale image. The image is the GTOPO DEM of the Earth's surface (a 1.6Gb image) scaled down and converted into a grayscale TIFF using Java Advanced Imaging. The image was then imported into the map viewer and the two effects added. The grayscale image is shown at top left, and the result at bottom right.
